Photogenic Drawing

Artist: So Wing Hon, Wilson Yeung

Presented by: 12th Pingyao International Photography Festival

19 to 25 September 2012

In 1923, Laszlo Moholy-Nagy wrote, “Photogram is the real key to photography. Its possibility can greatly expand the new discovery of photography.”

While the development of the digital imaging technology is extending in a very fast pace nowadays.  The birth of photographic image had already happened back as early as about two hundred years ago. What are the purposes of producing/making images? Are people pursuing the images? Or are they trying to go beyond the reality of the matter's nature? Or are they just yearning to the natural process of which the light and shadow dancing together to knit the images?

From traditional light drawing to modern imaging

“Photogenic Drawing” is a series of photography created by So Wing Hon and Wilson Yeung. By using traditional craft method and modern concept of creation, they fuse the photographic technology with painting through photogram, cyanotype and pad printing, etc. Producing images through Camera-less Photography, they try to reach a state of non-object in an oriental style.

Through “Photogenic Drawing”, the artists hope to inspire the exploration of the possibilities for the creation of images.
